Australian passport photos are 35–40 mm wide by 45–50 mm high with the chin to crown 32–36 mm, on a plain light grey background, under six months old.

Most common reasons for rejection
- •Retouching is banned and the guidelines name background removal explicitly — the background tool must not be used for an Australian passport photo.
- •Glasses must not be worn unless they cannot be removed for medical reasons; vision impairment alone is not a reason.
- •The size is a range, not a single measurement: anything from 35×45 mm to 40×50 mm is inside it.
